Since we are going to be staying home for at least the next 2 weeks, I thought it would be a fun idea to do a FREE live kids cooking class.
This is a great time to teach your kids some very basic recipes and techniques so that they can prepare food for themselves. Is this something that you would tune into or be interested in? If so, please comment below and let me know and please share with your friends who may be interested and have young children at home for the next few weeks. Make sure that you like and follow The Green Giraffe Eats to follow along!
I have several ideas I am planning and will likely be doing a poll to see what recipes you’d like to see the most.
This would be a live demo with my kids, so that you and your kids can watch and follow along or watch the replay at a later time. I know that you may not have all of the ingredients or not be able to get them all at this time, but some of the recipes have simple swap outs for things that you might have on hand.
Thanks for sharing, for your support and participation! Let’s join together, virtually, and teach our kids some real life skills while they are home with us!
Cheers,
Laura
I posted the picture and text above to my Facebook page yesterday and I was blown away by how many people are interested in kids cooking classes! After receiving so much positive feedback, I went straight to work on this project!
Frequently Asked Questions
First of all, thank you to each and every one of you for joining me! I woke up at 4:30 this morning to work on this project, I am super excited about my FREE Kids Cooking Class Series and I hope you are, too. I wanted to address some questions that I have received as I think they will be helpful for everyone:
What age are these cooking classes for?
These classes are geared toward children age 5-10 years old. If you have younger or older children, by all means, tune in and watch. As the caregiver, you may need to help significantly more with younger children, but I think it is a great way to get kids excited about cooking!
What are you teaching? What are the goals of these classes?
My goal in offering these tutorials is to encourage young children to get excited about, interested in and comfortable with preparing food for themselves and for other family members. Food should be fun! I am going to be teaching some basic breakfast items, sandwiches, snacks, desserts, and drinks. These are very basic recipes that I’m sure most adults can do; the point is to teach kids to make food for themselves and every small step builds their confidence in the kitchen.
What is the shopping list and schedule?
I am working on that right now! I know that getting the supplies may be difficult but don’t let this discourage you from watching. After the live events you will be able to go back and watch replays at any time. On the list there will be some suggestions for swap outs or alternative items you may have on hand. You can also utilize grocery delivery services, or pick up. Depending on where you are in the country you can check out amazon fresh, Walmart grocery pickup or delivery, local grocery store pickup or delivery, Shipt or Instacart just to name a few options. I, personally, just placed a large order for Walmart pick up.
I have 10 recipes that I will be teaching over the course of 10 days. Some recipes will be in the shorter range (5 minutes) others will be longer (15 minute range). Remember that I will be making these LIVE with my own kids. So there will be bloopers, mistakes, and quite possibly technical difficulties. So please bear with me as I navigate all of these challenges. Stay tuned to the page for when I publish the LIVE events, my plan at this time is to do them at 10:00 am Central Standard Time.
Where do I sign up?
These will be a LIVE event taking place on Facebook and are open to anyone and everyone, you do not need to sign up. Simply like and follow this page and stay tuned for when I post the schedule and shopping list. If you do not have a Facebook account the videos will be available as replays and can be watched at any time, you can still go to my Facebook page and watch even without an account. I am also working on a way to get the videos after I record and put them directly on my website. So stay tuned!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for sharing with your friends and family.
Cheers,
Laura
