It’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend here in Chicagoland and my family and I cannot wait to spend it outside! We have plenty of yard work waiting for us – including prepping the garden for planting – I can’t wait! Plus a new net swing on the swing set, loads of sidewalk chalk and if it’s warm enough I might even fill the water table for the twins.
Beautiful weather and all day outside calls for a batch of our homemade lemonade. I wanted to share our recipe with you so that you can make a pitcher with your family, too!
You can jump right to the recipe or watch the replay video of our Kids Cooking Show.
I hope you enjoy and have a relaxing weekend!
Cheers,
Laura

Homemade Lemonade
Course: DrinksDifficulty: ModerateRefreshing, freshly squeezed lemonade.
Ingredients
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (the juice from about 7-9 lemons)
1 cup granulated sugar
6 cups water
Lemon slices for garnish
Ice
Directions
- To make simple syrup:
1. Add 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water to a saucepan. Do not mix.
2. Place the saucepan over medium low heat and bring to a rolling boil.
3. Reduce heat slightly and allow to gently boil for approximately 4-5 minutes or until all of the sugar is dissolved. It is important not to stir the mixture. Just let it do it’s magic. The mixture will be extremely hot, be very careful.
4. With an oven mitt, remove the saucepan from heat and allow it to cool.
5. Transfer the simple syrup to a glass jar and place in the refrigerator until completely cooled. I suggest using a mason jar. - To make lemonade:
1. Gently roll 6-8 lemons back and forth across the counter top, pressing down as you roll. This will help to get the juice flowing.
2. Cut each lemon in half width-wise with a large chef’s knife.
3. Use a lemon juicer to squeeze the juice of the lemons into a measuring cup. If you do not have a lemon juicer you can use a fork. Simply place the tines of the fork into the pulp of the lemon and twist the lemon back and forth. *If you do not have fresh lemons you can use bottled lemon juice.
4. Add 1 cup lemon juice to the base of a pitcher.
5. Add in all of the prepared simple syrup and 5 cups of water. Stir gently.
6. Add ice to a serving glass and pour lemonade over ice. Garnish with lemon slices cut partially in half and rest on the side of the cup. Enjoy!
