How to Cut Mango

Do you love mango, but hate trying to cut it up? Let me show you two different tricks to get to the delicious, sweet fruit, quickly and easily.

Picking a Mango

When you’re picking a mango, much like a book, don’t judge a mango by it’s cover! What matters more is waiting for it to ripen before you cut it. You can buy a mango and wait up to a week before it’s ready, but it will be worth the wait. It needs to be very soft to the touch and give in to pressure when you squeeze gently. If you cut it when it is still firm – you will be disappointed – the fruit will be tough and fibrous. Mangoes often turn from green to more orange red as they ripen, but not all the time. Close your eyes and feel the mango before cutting it, how it feels is much more important than how it looks!

Check out this video where I demonstrate how to cut a mango into chunks and a fun trick using a surprising tool – a drinking glass – to remove the skin.

Stayed tuned to the blog this summer or subscribe to my YouTube Channel. Each week I will demonstrate a new fruit or vegetable. If there is a particular item you’d like to see comment and let me know!
